Sweet Eliza was 7 weeks old at her Columbia Newborn and Baby Photography Session. 7.weeks.old! All you newborn photographers are out there saying, “Are you flipping nuts?!” Well, yes and no. See when a mama contacts you because her photographer keeps flaking you make it work and you give her these memories. They are only this little once and it’s for a very SHORT amount of time. Caroline followed prep instructions to a “T” and the result… amazing “newborn” photos. Eliza loved being swaddled and loved white noise. Finding what works for each baby is part of the the job. Some babies love being on their tummy. Some babies hate it. Some babies love to be warm, where I”m totally sweating like crazy, and some babies hate being too hot. Each one is unique so each session never goes exactly the same and that’s part of why I love it! I’m not a rote routine lover… quite the opposite. And, when you throw in a 2 year old sister, the session will be anything but routine. So, here are two sweet sisters and their absolutely stunning family.

Doing your session in your own home makes it easier on YOU and the siblings of the new baby! Toddlers and kids are more comfortable in their own home. They tend to open up more quickly and be more themselves than if they’re placed in a new environment and demanded to “perform” with commands like “say cheese”. Uh, want to know how often “say cheese” or “smile” works?!?? Like NEVER. Trust me on this one. It may take some work. Your toddler may be more serious, and that is OKAY. That’s part of who they are in this moment in time. You will absolutely want to remember that part of his or her personality more so than a forced smile and epic meltdown from all the stress.

Sessions with me are low stress, high play, and just more of an experience that won’t exhaust you. So, this little angel below…. do you see her stressing? NOPE! Just playful smiles and curiosity. Perfect.

And sweet *almost* two month old Eliza. Seriously, it doesn’t get much better than this snuggle bug.
