Whether you’re eloping for COVID reasons or because you simply want an intimate day, some of the PRETTIEST locations in Appalachia are right here in Western Maryland. Elopements can be classified in many different ways, but for our planning purposes, let’s say elopements are either just you and your beloved or you include less than 20 of your nearest and dearest. Simple and perfect wedding days don’t have to include tons of stress and can include plenty of adventure!
- Swallow Falls State Park {McHenry, MD}
Swallow Falls State Park boasts three beautiful waterfalls that make for picturesque events. With multiple locations within the park for woodland vows, your outdoorsy dreams can come true here. There’s even a pavilion you can rent for a small reception post ceremony. The park can be pretty busy on summer weekends so keep that in mind when planning, and don’t forget to call to reserve your date.
2. Savage River Lodge {Finzel, MD}
Savage River Lodge is nestled within the mountains outside of Frostburg, Maryland. The venue includes yurts, cabins, and a main lodge with a restaurant. Perks include some wedding planning help as they have packages that include florals and officiant.
3. Wisp Resort {McHenry, MD}
The top of the ski resort on Wisp Mountain has long been a popular wedding spot. More recently, couples have decided to host their mini weddings or elopements on the mountaintop and celebrate with their family in rented lakeside homes. I can tell you, the sunsets are stunning here!
4. Cooper’s Rock {Bruceton Mills, WV}
There’s nothing like staring at the never-ending mountain chains as you say I do to your boo! Sunrises at Cooper’s Rock are super MAGICAL! There are pavilions here you can rent for mini celebrations with your loved ones.
5. Blackwater Falls {Davis, WV}
Really ready for an adventure?! Davis, WV has some of the prettiest sunsets, waterfalls abound, and the deer roam free. Blackwater Falls is simply part of the area. Nearby restaurants, breweries, and super cool airbnbs make this elopement spot one of my favorites. Want to adventure even further? There’s so much to see in the area. Ask me for tips.
6. Rent a House!
Find your favorite location like Deep Creek Lake or Thomas, WV near Blackwater Falls and Dolly Sods and rent a cabin or airbnb! Nothing like getting away for a weekend (or week) into the wilderness.
