Blue Moon Rising Wedding Photography at Deep Creek Lake | Katie + Scott

Wedding

When I first met Katie+Scott at sunrise near their DC home, we instantly clicked! We strolled the streets of our Capitol, stopping for coffee while I made them snuggle in the cold December sunlight. We ended in their super cute apartment, met by Piper and Poptart… well, they didn’t realllly greet me and more wanted to hide, but I love incorporating pets into your photos so we convinced the kitties to come out for a hot minute. (Piper and Poptart had their own signature cocktails at the wedding! Check it out below!)

Fast forward to their destination wedding in the mountains of Deep Creek, Maryland… we had a SUNNY day with another quite beautiful sunset. Blue Moon Rising is a woodland enthusiast’s dream come true. Katie went for a woodland fairy tale, and she totally pulled it off. Their family and friends spent the weekend in BMR’s eco-cabins and celebrated the love these two share with a ceremony performed by a close friend and beautiful words from Katie’s brother. You couldn’t get a more perfect and cozy day for an intimate wedding! These types of laid-back nuptials are my jam. Enjoy Katie+Scott’s Deep Creek wedding photography!

How incredibly beautiful are these flowers?! Katie and Scott purchased wholesale flowers from Potomac Floral and arranged them together! The ferns for the ceremony jars were hand picked from the forest.

The paper flowers around the arbor were lovingly handmade from 65Ib card stock. The cheapest card stock Katie found was from CutCardStock. She hosted, what she called “petal parties” where she and her friends would hang out and cut petals out using templates. Then, Katie assembled AAAAALL 75 flowers herself, using her friend Claire’s art direction to bring her arbor vision to life.

One of the most unique items about this already STUNNING day was Katie’s skirt! It was a SURPRISE DRESS! Only a handful of people knew she’d change from her first look dress to her ceremony dress! To paint her skirt, she took a lesson from and worked with an amazing textile artist in Silver Spring, MD named Clara Graves. She purchased the silk and dyes online from Dharma Trading, painted the silk and then had the skirt constructed. The bouquet flowers and boutonnieres were handmade from double sided crepe paper by Katie herself! I just LOVE a DIY wedding!

Man oh man, I love a good sunset! These two are just stunning together. MAGIC!

Their entire weekend was incredible! They spent their time basking in the love from all of their friends and reveling in their dream wedding. They truly have a love that loves out loud and I’m so happy I was able capture their precious moments!
